Variation #26

Front Cover

So, for some reason I get the feeling that my copy and this one are related. Probably because of the tape edges, I mean electrical tape isn’t unique to one location for sure, but chances are if you have to crank out 20 copies in the hour after you’ve gotten up but before you gotta go play a show, then yeah, reuse and recycle seem like good ideas. “Scaed of negitive olfactory responses…” Indeed! Another Chris Bickel owned masterpiece.

Variation #25

Front Cover

Ahh, Bill. Without the white hair that the White House embeds on it’s victims. Uh, presidents. Sorry about that. So this copy comes courtesy of Chris Bickel, the mad genius behind Anakrid. The text that’s nearly impossible to read, well it’s like getting a spam e-mail, complete with references to massaging and cigar smoking. Yeah.

Variation #24

Front Cover

OK, another blood splattered paint cover (like Variation #16 and Variation #10). This one originally resided over on ebay (sold in 2006 for a total of $51, which is a tid-bit high for it), was then later put on popsike. Thanks to the three or four people who’ve pointed it out on various message boards.

Variation #23

Front Cover

This one comes courtesy of Alex Sanchez. I’ve often thought about this cover, and considered that this blog sideways must spell arsebagelcreativity.com – although I guess that means that I’d have to start posting in crayon (or Comic Sans, the font equivalent of drooling idiots). Speaking of crayon, what motivated the move from crayons up top to marker underneath?

Variation #22

Front Cover

This one comes courtesy of Nate Wilson, Gloom Records magnate and all around fine person (go there and buy some of his records would ya?). Also the handwriting bears a resemblance to Variation #5, which also has Fear o’ Smell as the title. Irish? Maybe. All right, here’s the words from Nate himself:

I bought mine when it came out at a great little store called Erl records in Albany NY. I remember going there, seeing the many different covers Sam had dropped off at the shop, and picking out the one I thought was the funniest.

Years later when some of us asked Sam about the cover of the repress, his response was simple..”every good record has ham on the cover”.

Variation #21

Back Cover

Well, this one comes courtesy of Gary Oak, in Ireland. It reminds me a lot of the Big City series of compilations, which chronicled the almost-forgotten bands of NYC in the early to mid 80’s hardcore scene. The handwriting has a tagger quality to it as well. Odd that smell ended up in green while the rest of the comp is in black marker.

Variation #20

Filed under: cut and paste,Fear Of Smell,Rorschach Recycled Cover — Jon K. @ 1:23 pm

Front Cover

Back Cover

This is one of my favourite variations – mainly because Rorschach is one of my favourite bands, and Remain Sedate is a great album. Leo Ferrandino contributed this one, and sadly, this is the last Leo contribution. Well, I know I’ve said that before, but this time it’s true. I’ve seen possibly a couple of these, so maybe this is one of many similar covers. Either way, I like it.
