So this one came from the man in the field, who’s seen as many of these and will be a part of the blog hierarchy very shortly, Alex.

Looks like the Slow and Fear (as well as the list of things to do) are in one marker, with the of smell finished at a later date.  Perhaps that blop of schmutz is an erased “buy a new black marker”. Or maybe it said, “finish list”. Either way, a neat cover to ponder.

So, Senor Dynamite sent these in, the first of two. Obviously a riff on Fidelity Jones’ Piltdown Lad LP  – which is one of those records that you either like, or have taste.

Copped from ebay, no real purchase information other than the usual ebay legal disclaimers.

But don’t shit on the little guy cuz that’d be way ageist, y’know

Seems like a statement that only the 90’s could’ve put on a record cover. The black electrical tape is reminiscent of my cover, which had tape around the edges ala MRR’s catalog.

Alex found this one at End of an Ear, the finest record store in Austin, TX currently (way better than Waterloo which has perpetually been overrated). I don’t know why MITB’s “Combat Weed” song gets the bonus plug, but it does. I mean, it’s an awesome song and all, but kind of a dis to others on the compilation.

This version courtesy of Sam Smith, who wrote this about it:

This copy was purchased here in Winnipeg where I live. There’s a few copies in these parts, I know that for sure. Maybe they’ve already submitted theirs. Who knows!

Which is an appropriate time to pimp the blog – thanks Sam. If you have a copy take a picture, front and back, and submit it via e-mail to dietsociety@yahoo.com

This one courtesy of ebay, but really, ironically appropriate for Halloween. Foot Foot Scary! If in fact, that is foot foot, he/she looks more like a cross between a Gremlin and Grimace (yes, the giant purple turd from McDonalds). Not scary at all.I often wonder about Grimace and whether he’s the grown up, mutated version of Eyeore, but I digress. Everyday is Halloween fuckers, so enjoy it. Also, whoever won this one got a good ‘un for $8.

Always the simple one’s eh, Daniel? Someone else bought it, which would’ve been an amazing addition to the bland covers collection. Looks like Sam McPheeter’s handwriting on this one as well. This bears some resemblance to: Variation #114.

Gold backed (like Variation #11), with an oopsie painting over the Featuring sticker… weird. I suspect both this one and #11 were done by the same talent, both have some skill with drawing things (if not spray painting things gold). This one comes from Daniel Malin – his third submission (although I swear he’s got more submissions than that) so a big thanks for that. I’ve never seen a cover as intricate as this one and being drawn – it’s very graffiti influenced (or vice versa, seeing as a lot of the circa 1990’s punks in NYC were also throwing up pieces at the time). It also breaks Daniel’s streak of “boring” covers.

Here’s an e-mail submission via  Andrew.

Just saw your blog. Great idea. Here’s some pics of my copy of the record. Sorry they’re sideways!

What are the chances that the drawing is an action shot of a fart? Or… ?

Actually it looks a bit like a tiger lily to me… but maybe it’s a rorschach-test type question – it reveals much more about the viewer than it does the actual artiste. The back cover resembles the spray can work of Variation #75 and Variation #45. Maybe even Variation #11?

“Actually this record isn’t as stupid as it looks! I heard Garth Brooks thinks it’s quite groovy! If you’re in that dancing mood… buy it. FEAR OF SMELL! Yes, siree, that’s the title of it”

This one’s off of the bay, and sold for what looks like $19.99. Most excellent. Hand writing looks a lot like Variation #29 and possibly Variation #6 (look at the capital F, and the loopy lowercase L’s).
