This one came in from Keith – I’ll let him take it away:

I wish the image was better, but my scanner isn’t big enough and I’m stuck inside hiding from pandemic armed with only a shitty camera. I hope this site gets an update; projects like this: now more than ever! Yr probably busy podcasting.
Record collection is the only friend for the next month (or two?) , and have been ‘Discog.com-ing’ my records when I came across FOS, which reminded me of the FOS website, which I hadn’t visited in years. So here we are!

(I may have submitted this before years ago, but can’t recall right now and haven’t flipped through the entire site yet)

ps. Fear of Smell is probably one of my favorite records of all time, so I commend this work my friend(s). It came out when I was 18, had just found MITB, Tit Wrench, NOA and Born Against, and was in love with this whole record and took over the world.
Keith

So there we go, “Mystery Dream Date #5 La Sirenista!”

“US Army is full of pansys and wimps”

So this comes courtesy of e-mail from Deanna Koerner, here’s her story:

Here’s pics of my copy of Fear of Smell. I got it at a basement show in Milwaukee, probably in 1993, when one of the bands was playing. Rorschach? Moss Icon? Can’t remember, but I’m sure I could find out. I remember they sold out of the albums at the show and I felt lucky I got one!

I’m pretty sure that both Rorschach and Moss Icon were on tour during 1993, so either one’s a good guess (and probably would’ve been a great show). Either way, this one is really unique in that the back cover got a treatment as well – which is really, really rare (well in so far as out of the 160+ we’ve seen, only a few have decorated back covers).

John Wayne, who MDC have said was a nazi, here sports a really cool rockabilly coif, with full on mutton chops, several ear piercings and a snidely whiplash pencil moustache that is reserved for creeps (and John Waters, who is probably the only guy who can pull off that look without being a creep).

Caught this earlier this year on Instagram video and had to try and grab a quick screen shot. No idea what the back cover looks like either. Hmmm. Lipstick? Or just crayon? Who knows.

So on Facebook, there’s a mid-90’s group dedicated to the punk/emo/screamo/hardcore music that was coming out during that decade. Periodically they do a Fear of Smell post. This one is from Blair Taylor, who recalls getting it at Fallout Records in Seattle.  Anarchy!

I guess it’s only appropriate to celebrate baseball’s spring training starting with a cover loosely related to baseball. Who am I kidding, who gives a fuck about baseball? Gold spray-painted back, similar to the R2-D2 one from a while back (Variation #11), and Variation #132. This one also comes from Senor Dynamite.

Another one from ebay via Popsike. This one sold for $39 in April 2013. Someone sent a kiss with this LP, probably for their love of the Man Is The Bastard track, or even Sam and Joe.  I’m surprised at the amount of tape I’ve seen on covers to this point, it seemed that tape rather than glue was a common fixatif. Maybe all the glue was huffed before it could’ve been applied to the covers?

Again, if you have this copy you should send a better picture with the back cover as well.

Here’s another one that got missed from ebay – courtesy of Popsike – German seller, got 21 Euros for it in 2010. This one’s a bit unique in that the title is centred – most of the Rorschach recycles are over the Rorschach part of the sleeve. If you bought it, feel free to send a better picture.

Well, this is probably amongst my favourites, because Rorschach Remain Sedate is such a killer record that hit me right at the right point in the early 90’s. Took me forever to get a copy on vinyl as when the band toured around they didn’t have the vinyl yet (or had sold out on tour) and only had cassettes. There’s a whole new category for these ones, so you can sort by that to see Variation #20 and Variation #68. Yes, I do know it looks a whole hell of a lot like #68, but it’s not, look at the tape job pasting the MSPaint “Fear of Smell” – they end in different spots.

If you want and/or need it – wander on down to Double Decker Records and spend the $25 on it. Independent record stores always need your business, and Double Decker is one of the best stores on the east coast for punk and hardcore. You may even see Alex taking pictures of Fear of Smell’s that end up on here – which is what he did here!

“I can’t believe I’m going to kiss a dog.

At least you know what you’re kissing”

I just can’t believe I’m gonna suck a rubber!

At least you know what you’re sucking!”

Well, all’s fair in puppets, sex and war I guess. Or that’s what Meet The Feebles taught me. This one’s a clever bit of juxtaposition and comes courtesy of Double Decker Records and our man in the field Alex. Happy holidays everyone and may all your stockings be stuffed with the fear of smell.

“Vermin Forms Scare Me… Uh Yeah #11”

Got this submission in from the ether, but here’s some context and linky-links for you to click on.

Greetings!

not sure how I came across your site, but it’s great. I love the idea and seeing the other variations.

attached are pics of my copy – I got it at the Born Against show at the Mountain Lodge in Washington DC, Jan. 30 1993. I sifted through the copies on offer and picked this one since it seemed like it had a lot of work on it compared to some of the others.(Also picked up the Man Is The Bastard / Bleeding Rectum split 12″ which I had been trying to find for a while – oh, the days before the internet!)

also, I videotaped the show, and just dragged it out and uploaded it to youtube – feel free to include the link.

let me know if you need better pics, I can try to borrow a better camera.

thanks!
