Variation #161

Another one from the mid-90’s Facebook group. This one is owned by Harls Incharge. Strikes me as the sort of fellow who might be in control?

Jason Schulmerich contributed this via e-mail. Here’s what he had to say about it:
Ahoy. Procrastinated for years on sending this. Sorry. I found another copy long ago with a drawing of a burning U.S. flag on it. I gave it to my friend who actually died a few months ago. I’ll see if I can somehow wrest it from his estate. So, you may hear from me again. Later.

Well I’m not sure where I copped this image – proably ebay. Anyways, it’s a pretty plain jane deal, but maybe with a lipstick smear on the front cover. Slightly 3-D, slightly interesting.

“Pencils are sorta fucked, hey?”
Another submission from Edward Felch, this one perfectly timed for back to school. Pencils are indeed fucked this time of year, with all the sharpening that they have to go through. I mean, think of the pencils man, think of the pencils….
Anyways, it’s done with pencil crayons which don’t stick well to glossy covers. And a rarity with no “Featuring” sticker. Perhaps on the back.
Thanks for the submission the site wouldn’t exist without you (and everyone else who’ve submitted!).

This one is currently available on ebay here: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Fear-Of-Smell-Comp-Limited-Release-w-Handmade-Covers-Nation-Of-Ulysses-Infest-/162096267094?ssPageName=ADME:B:SS:CA:3160.
Here’s what the auction said about it:
“Fear Of Smell” Vermiform Records, 1993.
Great comp of bands and spoken word type performances… This was a limited release of 2,441 copies over two pressings. This is the yellow label 1st pressing. All copies had handmade front covers and band Listing sticker on the back covers. Has custom inner sleeve with band info. Features Nation Of Ulysses, Man Is The Bastard, Infest and more. Sam & Joe doing “Save The Children” is worth the price of the album! Look em up on YouTube!
The writing looks like it could be the same person as: Variation #99, Variation #79, Variation #47, and Variation #6.

This cheesy cover (Get it, cheese? Mozzarella?) comes courtesy of Allan McNaughton, and I honestly meant to post it sometime in the last few months but my basement was the handy recipient of the contents of the local sewer and that kind of threw my life into disarray for months.
There’s quite a few that follow this red and black marker with the “Rich Oliver” sticker – Variation #140, #113, #110, #102, #101, #37 and maybe #9.

Another one dug out of the crates by Alex. Featuring your Fucking Mother! I guess that’s a reference to the Sam and Joe track. The bubble-blocky letters look familiar – if you want to have a look at the similar ones, here’s a handy list (bonus points for those that also have the Only 5 Made on the front rather than the usual back): Variation #122, Variation #111, and quite likely Variation #38.

I’ve heard it before, uh wait. That’s not how this post goes, I in fact have seen it before, and I do want to see it again. Alex found this one in the wild, so all props to him. Maybe one of the spray painted covers, after they gave up adding tinsel and doing the same old same old.

Hi there – I picked up a copy of this beauty in Flashback Records in London today – thought it was only right to submit. Photos of front and back attached.
Thanks James!

Foot Foot Toast! Slowly I’ve been adding new categories, to make things easier (at first I thought about just linking, but that’s now getting a bit long in the tooth, or foot). Another fine submission by Alex. “Vermiform Compilation of Band” has shown up on several, as well as many other little clues, that makes me think it’s related to some of the other cartoony ones.
