“Oi Oi Oi Vey” All Jewish Orthodox Punk Compilation!”

Chris stumbled upon the blog and posted his version – which bears a resemblance to Variation #105, Variation #40, Variation #37, and Variation #113 – they all have bubbly letters, and if you look at the bottom of the E in Fear, it’s got a similar bump in it over several of those similar. I read somewhere that NYC has the highest concentration of orthodox Jews outside of Israel. When I visited in the mid 90’s – that certainly was something I noticed on the lower east side and in Brooklyn.

Chris also is part of a design firm, so if you need your firm designed, contact him through their website. Thanks Chris!

“Foot Foot Paint!”

This version spotted in the wild in a Philly record store for $30.00 by our man Alex. There’s been a few Foot Foot references: Variation #1 and Variation #72 for instance.

“Vermin Forms Scare Me… Uh Yeah #11”

Got this submission in from the ether, but here’s some context and linky-links for you to click on.

Greetings!

not sure how I came across your site, but it’s great. I love the idea and seeing the other variations.

attached are pics of my copy – I got it at the Born Against show at the Mountain Lodge in Washington DC, Jan. 30 1993. I sifted through the copies on offer and picked this one since it seemed like it had a lot of work on it compared to some of the others.(Also picked up the Man Is The Bastard / Bleeding Rectum split 12″ which I had been trying to find for a while – oh, the days before the internet!)

also, I videotaped the show, and just dragged it out and uploaded it to youtube – feel free to include the link.

let me know if you need better pics, I can try to borrow a better camera.

thanks!

“Mail Order Brides Have Fear of Smell”

Got this via e-mail from Michael Bain:

Found your website while I was whiskey drinkin’ and searching for bands doing Born Against cover songs.

Came across a video of the Sam and Joe hysterics

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qJHgsUBjwk4

and was blown away by the covers in the video and wouldn’t you know it…

A site dedicated to the compilation.

Bought my copy at the short lived Reconstruction Records before or after an ABC No-Rio Matinee.

Year unknown (circa 93/94)

I was 17/18 at the time and most of the bands still hold a deep meaning in my record collection.

I was lucky enough to see a few of them when I was younger and a few have done reunions.
(Rorschach, Moss Icon, 1.6 Band and most recently Infest)

Although all the bands on this compilation are amazing, nothing hits home like this version of Hell No’s – Cut the Artery.

BAIN 01/31/13 – Rockaway, NJ

(has it really been 20 years?)

20 year for sure.

So here’s the notice I got on the “About” page:

Hi there, I am liquidating my record collection this week, and I’m offering up my copy of Fear of smell.
You can my erupting penis here: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=170976275792

And on the actual auction here’s some more information:

Only 1000 made, and each cover a labor of pervy love. Mine is particularly clever in that it upcycles a Jack and the Beanstalk graphic so that the beanstalk has prickly haired balls and an ejaculating penis head. 20 years later, it is still hilarious- maybe even more so today.

In 1993, I was fortunate enough to be a part of the Chez Hiltz scene. There was a show about once a week in John’s house, just 5 miles away from where I lived with my mom. Some shows were easier to find out about than others, but I had the honor of getting a call when something was going on. And because of that I was able to see most of the bands featured on this comp in a tiny basement room. Native Nodd was one of the especially mind blowing bands to see live. Rorchach played there quite regularly, and my sister (12 years my junior) has cred among the twenty something Brooklynites because I would take her to those shows when she was about 4 years old, where I definitely damaged her view of the world just a little, and in the best possible way.

(track listing for the comp)

I am liquidating my record collection, holding almost nothing back, starting with LP’s. If this goes well, I’ll do 7″s next. It funny, doing this has stirred up a lot of emotions.

I’m just done serving as custodian to things. I’m simply seeking a more zen-like existence, completely focused on tattooing. So, I’m looking for new homes for this vinyl I amassed, mostly in the 90’s. These records have been safely stored for about 2 decades.

The back is a similar to most event – two tracklisting stickers and a large “Only 5 Made”. The auction picture isn’t so hot, so no sense really posting it here.

Happy new year!

Hello,
I found your site via late night nostalgic half-drunk internet
searching. Amazing. This record both inspired and frightened me as a
teen, and perhaps still as an adult. Most importantly, it gave me the
1.6 band. Here is my copy. Probably mail ordered from Blacklist.

Regards, Jeff

Man, Blacklist Distro has come up a ton the last little bit. Reading that small print, listing of odd and wonderful records sold for cheap… anyways, this is a bit of a weird one – never seen anything like this. Looks like a pre-teen got a hold of a cover and doodled some fancy spaceships, in fact a complete line of spaceship/starfighter type things. Cool stencil work.

Received this from Alan Marshall – who

Bought my copy from a guy in Portsmouth UK a couple of years ago

So, from Portsmouth to the Internets to this very blog. Looks like my personal copy, which I thought we would’ve seen more of these cut and paste ones.

This one came off ebay in the Summer (whoops) and I just found on my mess of a computer. Some day I’ll get organized, but until then my computer, desk and living space will look like this cover – a jumbled mess of squiggles that might spell out “Garbage Fela”.

Found this one on my browsing of ebay – if you want to bid you have less than 12 hours to do so: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Fear-of-Smell-LP-1993-Punk-Compilation-EXTREMELY-RARE-/230818492050?pt=Music_on_Vinyl&hash=item35bddaae92#ht_500wt_1186

Clearly a play on Life’s Blood most excellent song “Not for the Weak”, “Not for the Cheek” seems to profoundly state that we shouldn’t stuff our faces. Fourth of July BBQ’s warning for your stomachs.

As I listen to Abwarts, and check e-mail, this one came through and I thought, “Fuck. For the children, and the children’s children… I haven’t updated in a long fucking time.” So here’s the update. According to Alex:

here’s the copy i traded my arse bagel creativity cover for. came out of max ward’s shit.
Which makes me want to yell two things… “MAX WARD HAS THE CLEANEST ASSHOLE EVER” and “TRADE UPDATE” as if I was on TSN waiting for the GMs of the NHL to make a trade to justify the existence of Trade Deadline hockey updates on not one but four channels. Also, it would be remiss of me to not mention the fabulous Infest blog has been added to the Blogroll (as well as a couple other blogs that are dedicated to the nerditry of record collecting punk records). Do your work productivity a favor and hit up those blogs, leave some comments and participate. Speaking of participation, if you have a copy of the comp that hasn’t been seen yet (or if it has, throw a comment on the copy you own!) submit it. It’s lonely over here….
